On Friday, December 14 Judge Otho Eyster in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas sentenced seven men and three women for various felony crimes according to Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher.

William A. Smith, 28, Columbus, was convicted of breaking and entering, theft of drugs, theft, and possession of criminal tools. Smith was sentenced to an 11 month prison term. Thatcher said in the early morning hours of May 16, Smith and two accomplices broke into a Centerburg pharmacy to steal drugs and cash. Smith used a crow bar to break the glass in the front door of the pharmacy. Sergeant Deputy John Rine and Detective Sergeant Robert Durbin of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

Scott A. Green, 42, Mount Vernon, was convicted of burglary and assault. Green received a 15 month prison sentence. Thatcher said on May 22 at about 11:30 p.m., Patrolmen James DeChant and Jason Payne of the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a disturbance call on Birch Street. The Officers arrested Green for breaking into his 51 year old neighbor’s apartment, and then punching his neighbor during an argument.

Jack Lee Glancy, 49, North Clinton Street, Mount Vernon, was convicted of possessing crack cocaine. Glancy received a 15 month prison sentence. Thatcher said, on October 6, 2006 at approximately 10:20 a.m., Patrolman David McElroy of the MVPD arrested Glancy for having fictitious license plates on his vehicle. During a search incident to his arrest, Glancy was found in possession of a rock of crack cocaine.

Ryan D. Dewyze, 24, Mount Vernon, was convicted of theft of a check and theft by deception for using the stolen check to purchase a $600.00 television set at a store in Mount Vernon. Dewyze was sentenced to an 11 month prison term and ordered to pay restitution to the store. Thatcher said Patrolman Justin Trowbridge of the MVPD, after researching the store’s records, found that Dewyze used the check to purchase the television set, on August 10.

Robert Lee Johnson, 34, Howard, was convicted of attempted rape in Knox County, in 1994, and as a sexually oriented offender he must register his changes of address with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. On September 24, Detective Sergeant Robert Durbin of the KCSO determined that Johnson failed to register a change of address, and Johnson received a one year prison sentence for that offense, today.

Matthew T. Anthony, 24, Powell, was convicted of attempted failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer as the result of a police chase that occurred on June 17, at 8:45 p.m. Anthony’s 15 month prison sentence will remain suspended while he serves a three year term of community control supervision. Thatcher said Anthony must perform 16 hours of community service and forfeit the motorcycle he was operating while committing the offense. Officer Jessica Butler and Corporal Beth Marti of the MVPD handled the case with the assistance of Deputies Dan Selby, Dave Shaffer and Tim Light of the KCSO.

Shaun J. Ward, 21, Fredericktown, was convicted of breaking and entering and theft. Ward received an 11 month prison sentence that will remain suspended while he serves a three year term of community control supervision. Thatcher said, on July 25 a witness saw Ward enter a garage on North Chestnut Street, in Fredericktown, and then carry out a coil of aluminum electrical service wire. Lieutenant Jay Sheffer of the Fredericktown Police Department investigated the case.

Cindi K. Silliman, 46, Yankee Street, Fredericktown, was convicted of eight counts of deception to obtain dangerous drugs. Silliman received an 11 month prison sentence with the possibility of early release to a drug treatment program.

Marion A. Carpenter, 32, North Jefferson Street, Mount Vernon, was convicted of seven counts of deception to obtain dangerous drugs. Carpenter received a 15 month prison sentence that will remain suspended while she serves a three year term of community control supervision. Thatcher said Carpenter must undergo a drug and alcohol assessment and counseling as part of her community control supervision.

Deputy Tom Durbin of the KCSO investigated the Silliman and Carpenter cases.

On September 28, Denise L. Posey, 46, Mount Vernon, was convicted of bringing drugs into the Knox County Jail. Posey’s 3 year prison sentence was suspended while she served a term of community control supervision. Judge Eyster revoked Posey’s community control supervision due to failing to report to her supervising officer and positive test for cocaine use, and Posey began serving her three year prison sentence today.
